Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired U.S. rights to "Burma VJ," Anders Ostergaard's documentary about the 2007 uprising in Myanmar, and plans to release the film this spring.
"Burma VJ" is centered on the Democratic Voice of Burma, a collective of 30 anonymous and underground video journalists who recorded the events on handycams and smuggled the footage out of the country.
The Magic Hour Films' production won the world documentary editing award at Sundance and the Intl. Human Rights Award at Berlin.
Oscilloscope said "Burma" will open in New York on May 20. HBO has broadcast rights.
