Jasrac links with copyright org

Service to help assess fees for online music

The Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (Jasrac) has linked with music biz rights orgs to launch a body to collect information to assess copyright fees for music played on the Internet.

The Copyrights Information Collection and Processing Organization plans to expand its services to copyright holders for pics and toons.

It is skedded to bow mid-March in Tokyo with start-up funds from the Network Music Rights Conference, founded in 1997 by nine music industry bodies to draw up rights guidelines for the transmission of music on the Internet. It will begin offering its services in April 2010.

Jasrac and other rights management bodies will share the cost of developing the system for copyright info collection and management.
