'24' to stamp out carbon footprint

Season using greener production practices

Jack Bauer is on a mission to save the planet, or at least reduce its carbon footprint.

Hoping other shows will follow in their footsteps, "24's" producers recently announced that they have reduced their season seven carbon footprint by 43% through greener production practices.

These practices include replacing incandescent lighting with compact fluorescent lighting; using biodiesel-blended fuels to power generators and production vehicles; and distributing all scripts, schedules and production memoranda electronically.

"This show will serve as a model to all our productions and to the industry overall of how we can bring television production into the 21st century and reduce Hollywood's carbon footprint," 20th Century Fox Television chairs Dana Walden and Gary Newman said in a statement.

In an attempt to encourage viewers to do the same, PSA campaigns featuring the show's stars kicked off Monday on Fox.
