Separately, CBS on Thursday confirmed it has ordered two more cycles of "Survivor" for the 2009-10 season.
The 44-episode order for "Simpsons" will take the 20th Century Fox TV series to an eye-popping 493 episodes and through its 22nd season, in 2010-11. That pushes the show past the 20-season mark held by CBS' "Gunsmoke" and NBC/CBS' "The Red Skelton Show."
Among primetime entertainment series overall, the Eye's "Ed Sullivan Show" still reigns (at least for a few more years) with 24 seasons.
Fox last month kicked off a yearlong "Simpsons" celebration dubbed "Best. 20 Years. Ever" to culminate on the 20th anniversary of the show's bow on Jan. 14, 1990.
CBS' renewal of "Survivor" covers the show's 19th and 20th editions, which will air in the 2009-10 season. "Survivor," which remains a top 10 player for the Eye, will hit its 10-year anniversary next year. Skein is jointly owned by exec producer Mark Burnett and CBS.
