Darren Bousman to direct 'Akula'

'Saw' director to helm heist thriller

“Saw” helmer Darren Bousman will next helm “Akula,” a heist thriller scripted by Mark Distefano.

Constantine is financing, and Jeremy Bolt and Paul W.S. Anderson are producing. Alex Litvak is doing a rewrite.

Pic is a heist film set on a submarine, Bousman said.

“The tone is dark, but very different from the films I’ve directed recently,” he said.

Bousman directed the three “Saw” films. His “Repo! The Genetic Opera” -- a horror musical that had Paris Hilton in its cast -- didn’t please critics but has gained steam with a core audience.

Bousman recently completed a 12-city tour of “Repo!”
