Showtime orders more 'Tara'

'United States of Tara'

Showtime's ordered 12 new episodes of 'United States of Tara.' Second season will kick off in early 2010.

Showtime's series about a women with multiple personalities is getting a second season.

The pay cabler has ordered 12 new episodes of "United States of Tara," which is set to go back into production this summer and kick off its second campaign early in 2010 with its entire first-season cast intact.

Factoring in encore runs, "Tara" has averaged 2.1 million viewers in the four weeks since its Jan. 18 premiere, with Sunday's episode up 15% in total viewership over the Feb. 1 installment. The rookie's numbers exceed the first-season performances of both "Dexter" and "Weeds."

"Tara" was created by Diablo Cody and is produced by DreamWorks Television, with Steven Spielberg serving as exec producer.
