Thesp Michael Chiklis is launching a new take on Greek gods in the form of a comicbook: He's partnered with IDW Publishing to create the graphic novel series "Olympus."

Based on an idea by Anny Simon Beck, series will tell the story of ancient Greek gods who return to a ravaged, chaotic present-day Earth where they battle for the future of mankind against the Titans.

Chiklis' shingle, Extravaganza Prods., is overseeing the books, which it hopes to develop into film, TV or vidgame properties.

"As a kid, I was always fascinated by the Greek gods, so the chance to bring my childhood heroes and villains to life in the modern world is irresistible," said Chiklis, whose FX series "The Shield" recently ended its run.

San Diego-based IDW also publishes "30 Days of Night," which was adapted as a feature in 2007, as well as books based on "CSI," "Star Trek," "Angel," "Dr. Who" and "Transformers."
