Semanick grabs two nominations

Mixer recognized for work on 'Wall-E,' Button'

As a double nominee in the sound mixing category for his work on "Wall-E" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," Michael Semanick is in rare air this award season.

"This is the first time that's happened for me," he remarks. "What's crazy is that those were the only films I worked on last year."

Semanick, who has been Oscar nommed seven times and is a two-time winner, was dialogue and music re-recording mixer on "Wall-E" and the sound effects re-recording mixer on "Button" from Skywalker Sound.

No matter what his responsibility, Semanick has a singular pursuit on the mixing stage. "Nothing can get in the way of telling the story," he says. "Sound effects can't get in the way of music, music can't get in the way of sound effects. Sound has to support the story the whole time, not the other way around."
