Jennifer Lopez has signed to produce a remake of Argentina’s hit teen telenovela format “Rebelde Way” (The Rebels) for Fox, which has Stateside rights. Lopez and Simon Fields will produce under their Nuyorican Prods. banner, based on a screenplay adapted by Duane Adler (“Save the Last Dance,” “Step Up”).

“Rebels,” about the members of a teen pop band who go to an elite private high school, has sold in its original form to more than 40 countries and for remakes to Mexico, Chile, India and Portugal.

Buenos Aires-based Cris Morena Group and RGB Entertainment produced the original, which spawned a feature film and spinoff businesses from CDs to tours of the band that emerged from the series.

Skein marks the latest U.S. remake of an Argentine series. Fox repurposed “Resistire,” a hit on Argentine network Telefe, into “Watch Over Me,” starring Dayanara Torres.

Sony Pictures Television has picked up U.S. remake rights for Argentine comedy “Lalola” from Israel-based Dori Media Group, the skein’s co-producer.
