BERLIN — Wolfgang Becker is re-teaming with Daniel Bruehl on “Ich und Kaminski” (Me and Kaminski), the helmer’s first feature film project since 2003’s mega hit “Good Bye, Lenin.”
Produced by Berlin-based X Filme, pic is an adaptation of Daniel Kehlmann’s 2003 novel about a shameless and opportunistic young art critic who sets out to write a biography of an enigmatic painter in his quest for fortune and glory — but first he has to convince the aging artist, who lives with his daughter in the Alps.
The story crisscrosses Western Europe, from the Alps, into France, Germany and lastly to Belgium’s North Sea coast.
The planned European co-production is set to shoot this fall.
Becker will be on hand at the Berlin Film Festival with a short film, “KrankesHaus,” in the omnibus production “Deutschland 09,” which is screening out of competition in the main section.
“Good Bye, Lenin,” which premiered at the Berlinale, went on to become one of the most successful films in Germany in 2003, grossing some $50 million.
