Arts & Ideas fest announces slate

Offerings include 'Circus,' 'Ivanov'

A U.S. premiere of “Circus” -- a Barabbas Theater Company of Ireland offering inspired by Fellini’s “La Strada” -- along with the U.S. premiere of a Hungary-set staging of Chekhov’s “Ivanov” by Budapest’s Katona Jozsef Theater Company will be among the theatrical offerings at the 14th Intl. Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven, Conn., in June.

Also featured will be the return U.S. visit of the solo stage adaptation of the Samuel Beckett novella “First Love,” by the Gare St. Lazare Players from Ireland. The production, starring Conor Lovett, bowed in Gotham this month as part of the Public Theater’s Under the Radar Festival.

“Circus,” staged by the company’s founder, Raymond Keane, will run at the University Theater June 13-20. “First Love,” directed by Judy Hegarty-Lovett, plays June 17-21 at Long Wharf Theater, while “Ivanov,” presented in Hungarian with English subtitles, plays June 24-27 at the University Theater.

New Haven fest runs June 13-27 and features music, dance and visual arts shows as well as seminars and panels for its “ideas” portion.
