Tribune-owned stations including KTLA Los Angeles and WPHL-TV Philadelphia are among those that have recently picked MGM and Weigel Broadcasting's syndie movie service branded as "This TV." The package is designed to run as a 24/7 movie service on the offshoot digital channels of local broadcast TV stations. "This TV," which began operations in November, is now cleared on stations covering 60% of U.S. TV households.
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" is taking off again in syndication this fall. After years on cable, the package of "Next Gen" reruns offered by CBS Television Distribution has generated a surprisingly strong response from stations. Off-net strip has been cleared in 83% of the country, including 29 of the top 30 markets.
Litton Entertainment has confirmed plans to launch a courtshow strip, "Street Court," in the fall. Indie distrib is capitalizing on the dearth of new product from larger syndie players to land slots for its show, hosted by former Brooklyn D.A. Michael Mazzariello. "Street Court" was cleared in 65% of the country as of Monday.
