E1 Films, the U.K.-based distribution arm of Canada-based E1 Entertainment, has acquired the U.K. and Ireland rights to helmer Lone Scherfig’s Sundance title “An Education,” which has just been added to the Berlin Competition list.

Pic, which won the World Cinema audience and cinematography awards at Sundance, stars Peter Sarsgaard and rising star Carey Mulligan.

BBC Films and Endgame Entertainment co-financed the pic. Brit writer Nick Hornby penned the screenplay based on a memoir by Lynn Barber about coming of age in 1960s suburban London.

Earlier this week, E1-owned Seville Pictures of Montreal inked to distribute all the upcoming pics from Christal Prods., the Montreal-based production company run by Christian Larouche. His Christal Distribution went belly-up last year. Larouche is one of Canada’s top producers.

Films under the deal include “Afterwards,” starring John Malkovich and Evangeline Lilly, and “Mr. Nobody,” directed by Jaco van Dormael and starring Jared Leto and Diane Kruger.
