Channel 4 takes two from HBO

Company nabs 'True Blood,' 'Generation Kill'

LONDON — Blighty’s hybrid pubcaster Channel 4 has nabbed two high-profile skeins from HBO — “True Blood” and “Generation Kill.”

“True Blood,” a Golden Globe winner, was created by Alan Ball (“Six Feet Under”) and stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer.

Set in the not-too-distant future, the 12-part skein is a vampire story with a difference, as the vampires no longer need to feed on humans.

Iraq War drama “Generation Kill” comes from the same team that masterminded “The Wire,” David Simon and Ed Burns, and is based on the experiences of marines in the First Reconnaissance Battalion.

The web also announced Tuesday that it has greenlit a docudrama with the working title of “The Queen” that looks certain to generate controversy in the U.K.

Show will feature a number of British actresses playing the British monarch during various stages of her reign between 1955-2005.

Each episode of the five-hour series, made by British shingle Blast, will take a key episode from Elizabeth II’s monarchy using actors and testimony from royal insiders.

The final program will feature the story of her son Prince Charles’ second marriage to Camilla Parker-Bowles, also known as the Duchess of Cornwall.

The five actresses who will play the Queen include Samantha Bond (“Emma,” Miss Moneypenny to Pierce Brosnan’s Bond) and Lisa Dillon (“Cranford,” “Bright Young Things”).
