HONG KONG - Huayi Brothers is set to begin production on "Sound of Wind," a lavish period spy flick about communists fighting against Japanese invaders.
Actors Zhou Xun ("Painted Skin") and Zhang Hanyu ("Red Cliff") top line the star studded Mainland cast, while Chen Kuo-fu, producer of the 2007 war epic "Assembly" will share directing duties with Gao Qunshu ("Tokyo Trial".)
According to a spokeswoman for Huayi, the film is scheduled for a ten month shoot, although she declined to comment on a budget or start date.
"Wind" is Huayi's latest addition to a slate of productions heavy on big-budget blockbusters. China's leading private sector movie producer is also planning to shoot Feng Xiaogang's "Aftershocks" and Tsui Hark's period mystery thriller "Detective Dee" this year.
Company was also previously a producer on Jackie Chan- and Jet Li-starrer "Forbidden Kingdom" and Stephen Chow's "Kung Fu Hustle."
