NBC, ABC navigate new pilots

'Witches' adaptation, nurse drama announced

NBC has greenlit a pilot for a dramedy revolving around nurses, while ABC has conjured a pilot order for Warner Bros. TV's small screen adaptation of "The Witches of Eastwick."

Peacock's "Mercy" comes from Universal Media Studios and scribe Liz Heldens, who penned the pilot and will serve as exec producer. Project is described as a look at the highs and lows of the lives of three nurses who are good friends.

Heldens has spent the past three seasons as a scribe on NBC's "Friday Night Lights." Her other credits include NBC's "Bionic Woman" and Fox's "Boston Public."

Maggie Friedman is the writer and exec producer of Warner Bros. TV's latest take on "Eastwick." Project, based on the on the John Updike novel and the hit 1987 pic, is a light fantasy centering on three women who discover they have supernatural powers after a mysterious man comes to their small town.

Friedman's previous credits include ABC's "Once and Again" and the WB Network's "Dawson's Creek." Warner Bros. produced an "Eastwick" pilot for Fox in 2002 -- with a cast that included future "Desperate Housewives" star Marcia Cross -- that was never picked up to series.
