BSkyB nabs U.K. rights to 'Lie to Me'

Sky One to air procedural drama this spring

LONDON -- U.K. rights to Tim Roth's first TV skein, "Lie to Me," have been nabbed by satcaster BSkyB's flagship web Sky One.

The deal with 20th Century Fox Television Distribution gives Sky One exclusive free and basic TV rights plus non-exclusive rights for VOD and download-to-own. Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. controls Fox and BSkyB.

Sky head of acquisitions David Smyth said: " 'Lie To Me' is an exemplary procedural drama and we know it will resonate with Sky's customers."

Roth plays human lie detector Dr. Cal Lightman, who studies facial expressions and body language to discover if and why subjects are lying.

Skein is produced by Imagine Television with 20th Century Fox Television. Samuel Baum, Brian Grazer, David Nevins and Steven Maeda are executive producers.

The series, which will air in high definition, will unspool in the U.K. in spring. It bowed on Fox Stateside on Wednesday.
