'New in Town' cut for PG rating

Lionsgate, Gold Circle edit language on film

Lionsgate and Gold Circle Films have cut some strong language from romantic comedy "New in Town" in order to get a more kid-friendly PG rating.

Without the cuts, the Renee Zellweger-Harry Connick Jr. pic -- which opens Jan. 30 -- would have received a PG-13.

PG-rated films that aren't traditional family titles have been doing strong B.O. of late.

"Marley and Me," the sleeper hit of the Christmas sesh, has earned $134.3 million to date, while the more recent comedy "Bride Wars" has likewise exceeded expectations, grossing $40.4 million since its Jan. 9 debut. Both pics are from 20th Century Fox.

Gold Circle and Lionsgate said in a statement that they mutually decided to delete the scenes with profanity.
