Samantha Mathis and Colin Hanks are among the thesps who will appear alongside Jane Fonda in the upcoming Broadway play "33 Variations."
Mathis ("Grey's Anatomy") portrays the daughter of Katherine, the musicologist played by Fonda. Hanks ("Mad Men") is cast as Katherine's nurse.
Plot of the play, penned and helmed by Moises Kaufman ("The Laramie Project"), follows Katherine's investigation into an enigmatic incident in Beethoven's history while the musicologist also comes to terms with her daughter and her own life.
Cast list includes Don Amendolia, Susan Kellermann, Erik Steele, pianist Diane Walsh and Zach Grenier as Beethoven.
Design team includes Derek McLane (sets), Janice Pytel (costumes), David Lander (lights) and Andre Pluess (sound). Daniel Pelzig choreographs.
Producer David Binder presents the Tectonic Theater Project production of "33 Variations," which bowed at Arena Stage in Washington in 2007 before a staging last year at the La Jolla Playhouse. Broadway incarnation also is produced by Ruth Hendel, Barbara Whitman, Hal Goldberg, Eric Schnall, Jayne Baron Sherman, Arielle Tepper Madover and Latitude Link.
Show begins previews Feb. 9 ahead of a March 9 opening at the Eugene O'Neill Theater.
