Born in Brooklyn, he served in the Navy during the Korean war. He started his career in the entertainment business in the Columbia Pictures mailroom, and worked at Columbia for 24 years. He moved to AMC and then Paramount, where he became division manager. Moving to United Artists, he became president of distribution. At the founding of TrisStar Pictures, he became executive VP of domestic distribution and then served as president of Loew's Theaters until his retirement.
Esbin was a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, a former president of the Will Rogers Institute; a longtime member of the Friars club and was involved for many years with the Variety Boys and Girls Clubs in New York.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; a son; a daughter; five grandchildren and a brother.
