Though Modine has worked primarily in film and TV, he has appeared onstage in Arthur Miller's "Finishing the Picture" at Chicago's Goodman Theater and Miller's "Resurrection Blues" at London's Old Vic.
Film and TV credits include "Full Metal Jacket," "Birdy," "Streamers," "Married to the Mob," "And the Band Played On" and Showtime's "Weeds."
The Hartford production will use Christopher Sergel's 1990 adaptation of Harper Lee's 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. A film version of the story won an Oscar for thesp Gregory Peck and screen adapter Horton Foote.
Foote's daughter, Hallie Foote -- last seen on the Rialto in this season's "Dividing the Estate," written by her father -- will also star in the Hartford Stage production, which runs Feb. 12-April 4.
That engagement will be followed by a run at Connecticut's Westport Country Playhouse April 21-May 9. Modine has only been announced for the Hartford Stage part of the co-production.
