Richard Lorber launches Alive Mind

Keying on docus with themes of spirituality, enlightenment and culture -- but "not tabloid spirituality," Lorber says -- it will make its first theatrical title "The Gates." The pic, co-directed by Albert Maysles and Antonio Ferrera, chronicles the 2005 Central Park art project by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. It preemed at Tribeca in 2007 and then aired on HBO.
Specific release dates and markets have not been firmed, but the venues will include schools and other institutions.
Alive Mind has already released about 20 DVD titles since opening its doors in mid-2008, including a doc about "Hair" and "Protagonist," from Oscar winner Jessica Yu.
The company plans about 25 pics a year, some of which will bow in theaters.
