Tim Gibbons on 'Wall-E'

Although there were many great traditional films this year, the one I loved the most was pure, magical and animated. "Wall-E" is a movie that literally had everyone in the audience loving it, from 3-year-olds to my 82-year-old mother. The first 20 minutes, with almost no dialogue, is an amazing feat of storytelling, taking us back to silent movies in terms of simple, moving pictures that move you. With a hyper-realistic yet beautiful look, it has cinematography to rival any other film out there this year, and I soon went directly into "Wall-E's" world and stopped thinking about it as an animated film. The "dance" sequence in space, between Wall-E and Eva, was pure magic.

Character and emotion were so strong, that later, when the audience was teary-eyed over the love story, I was swept up into it as well. I loved the attention to detail in every scene, and the obvious care that was put into the dialogue, the story and the characters. I've seen the film twice and loved it each time. Who knew you'd laugh and cry and care so much about two robots?
