Courbit invests in music talent site

MyMajorCompany looks to expand into U.K.

Gallic media entrepreneur Stephane Courbit, the former prexy-CEO of Endemol France, has acquired a 49% stake in French music talent website MyMajorCompany for a reported e3 million ($4.1 million) via his holding company, Financiere LOV.

Deal may have been aided by former EMI Music CEO Alain Levy, who is a consultant to MyMajorCompany and Banijay Entertainment, the multi-territory TV production group 49% owned by Financiere LOV.

MyMajorCompany invites users to become smalltime music producers, investing in the albums of young artists. Company has already raised the finances needed -- about $95,400 -- to launch French femme singer Agonie.

Its first discovery, Gregoire, whose “Toi + Moi” single was web-user financed, has sold 240,000 albums.

MyMajorCompany can expect to benefit from synergies with other Courbit investments, via Banijay, such as Air Prods., owned by gameshow host Nagui Fam, and startup company, ALJ Prod.

According to founder Simon Istolainen, MyMajorCompany is targeting the U.K.’s robust music market for international growth.
