Sundance slots 'Season'

Strouse film added to Premieres section

'The Winning Season'

Jim Strouse’s 'The Winning Season,' starring Sam Rockwell, will play in Sundance’s Premieres section despite missing the submission deadline.

Jim Strouse's drama "The Winning Season" has been added to the Premieres section of the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

Pic stars Sam Rockwell as the oddball coach of a girls' high school basketball team. Emma Roberts and Rob Corddry also star.

Produced by Plum Pictures and Gigi Prods., the film was still shooting in November -- well past the submission deadline -- yet nabbed the late slot.

Strouse is no stranger to Sundance, having written "Lonesome Jim" (2005) and directed "Grace Is Gone," which won the fest's audience award in 2007 after the Weinstein Co. bought it for $4 million.

The Sundance Film Festival unspools Jan. 15-25 in Park City, Utah.
