WGA taps William Blinn for TV award

The kudo, a lifetime achievement nod for TV writers, will be presented at the WGA Awards ceremony on Feb. 7 at the Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Previous recipients include Rod Serling, Norman Lear, Steven Bochco, Susan Harris, Stephen J. Cannell, John Wells and the guild’s most recent honoree, David Chase.
“William Blinn’s writing changed the face of television,” said WGA West president Patric Verrone. “He has credits that few can match and all can envy.”
Blinn received Emmys for the “Roots” miniseries and “Brian’s Song.” He also penned telepics “The Boys Next Door,” “A Question of Love,” “Shaughnessy,” “The Outside Woman” and “All God’s Children.”
Series credits include “The Big Valley,” “Shane,” “Bonanza,” “My Favorite Martian,” “Rawhide,” “The Interns,” “Starsky and Hutch,” “Hunter,” “Gunsmoke,” “Fame,” “Eight Is Enough” and “The New Land.”
Blinn’s feature writing credits include “Purple Rain,” co-written by Albert Magnoli.
