CTV, which retains format rights to the series, is approaching a year when ad revenues are expected to drop.
Despite averaging a solid 1.47 million viewers in the final weeks of the sixth season, which ended in September, “Idol” has been playing second fiddle to CTV’s other costly reality show, “So You Think You Can Dance Canada,” which just wrapped its first season.
CTV told Insight Prods. that “Idol” was being shelved on Monday. By Tuesday, fans, former contestants and even judge Zach Werner had signed “A Protest to Save Canadian Idol” on Facebook.
