Located in a former cotton factory and covering more than two acres, Turin’s Cineporto comprises production offices, props and wardrobe rooms, a restaurant and a screening room for dailies. The complex, which can concurrently accommodate up to five productions, does not include soundstages, which are located elsewhere in the city.
Likely to consolidate Turin’s status as Italy’s fastest-growing production hub, Cineporto will be unveiled Friday, with local authorities and stars at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
This latest move by the Turin/Piedmont Film Commission follows its recent link-up with L.A.-based Endgame Entertainment to set up a $32 million film fund which, though delayed by the current financial turmoil, will bow at the Berlin Film Festival in February.
While Rome’s Cinecitta Studios have languished lately, the Piedmont region this year hosted 40 productions including Dario Argento’s English-language slasher “Giallo,” toplining Adrien Brody. The Weinstein Co. will distribute Stateside.
Upcoming productions set to dock at Cineporto include Robert Englund-helmed gothic fantasy “The Vij” and Italo helmer Mario Martone’s costumer “Noi credevamo” (We Believed).
