Adams will play a woman who dies and goes to heaven but is in danger of being demoted to a lower level of paradise unless she can prove herself by recounting her 10 best days. The novel was published by Penguin last May.
Adams will make her debut as a producer on the project alongside Levy and his 21 Laps banner. Tom McNulty of 21 Laps will also be involved in a producing capacity.
Deal reunites Adams and Levy: The thesp plays Amelia Earhart in the director's "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," which Fox has set for Memorial Day release next year.
"I've known Adena for over a decade, and there is Amy, reading her book on set," Levy said. "I told her I knew the writer, she said she was loving the book, and I asked her if we should try to do this together.
"There is a father-daughter dynamic at the heart of the character's redemption, and as the father of three girls, that resonated strongly for me."
Adams stars with Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman in the John Patrick Shanley-directed "Doubt"; she reteams with Streep in the Nora Ephron-directed "Julie and Julia," which will be released in August. She'll next star in "Leap Year" and "Daughter of the Queen of Sheba."
