'Mamma' DVD breaks U.K. record

1.7 million units sold on first day

By
LONDON — “Mamma Mia!,” already a theatrical hit in Blighty, has become the fastest-selling DVD of all time in the territory.

The musical sold 1.7 million units on Monday, its first day on release, breaking the day one record set by “Titanic,” which sold 1.1 million on its first day in 1998, Universal reported.

Defying box office gravity, “Mamma Mia!” is still hovering in the U.K. top 15 chart. This weekend, its 20th on release, it dipped 42% to take its cume to a monster $104.6 million.
