Discovery ups development VP

McCarthy to head production at network

Gena McCarthy has been upped to senior VP for development and production at the Discovery Channel.

Most recently veep of development and current programming, she fills the vacancy left by Jeff Hasler, who ankled the cabler last week.

McCarthy returned to Discovery earlier this year after a two-year VP stint at WE, where she oversaw all original programming. Prior to that, she was an exec producer at Discovery and TLC, presiding over marquee skeins including "Dirty Jobs," "The Deadliest Catch" and "Mythbusters."

"She has that keen sense of what makes compelling programming, and she's able to execute it from concept to air," said Discovery prexy-general manager John Ford.
