Gibbs, who's known for an affable personality but will challenge almost any news report he considers inaccurate, will become the face of the Obama White House after the new president is sworn in on Jan. 20. Gibbs has often appeared comfortable on camera, so he's expected to handle daily press briefings smoothly.
Obama also named two others to the White House messaging team -- Ellen Moran and Dan Pfeiffer as communications director and deputy communications director, respectively.
Moran is currently exec director of Emily's List, a national organization dedicated to helping pro-choice Democratic women get elected. Previously, she has worked for the Democratic National Committee and the AFL-CIO. As communications director, Moran will focus on getting the new president's message out to a variety of media.
Pfeiffer, who joined the Obama campaign in early 2007, is currently communications director for the transition. Previously, he served in a communications capacity for Democratic senators Evan Bayh of Indiana and Tim Johnson of South Dakota.
