Site aims to trade on the high visibility of its domain name as it serves up a wide-ranging mix of headlines, blog posts, video and news of the weird.
James McDonald, PV Media's veep of corporate sales and development and a former newspaper journo, has been named prexy and CEO of the joint venture. John Wilpers, a journo and online media consultant, has been tapped as editor of BreakingNews.com.
In addition to pulling headlines from an array of established media, the site aims to build up a network of contributors. It's already got a partnership deal in place with Northwestern U.'s Medill School of Journalism, whose students will provide video and audio podcast content for the site.
In announcing the launch, Gotham-based PV Media touted its search optimization technology that will allow it to funnel news-seeking Web surfers on to BreakingNews.com. PV Media also promises to distrib BreakingNews.com banner ads on other news-centric sites.
The BreakingNews.com moniker alone "holds tremendous value for advertisers seeking prime online real estate with guaranteed traffic," Rosenberg said.
