Broadway dims lights for critic Barnes

Theater community pays respects

Broadway dimmed the lights on its theater marquees for one minute at curtain time Thursday evening in honor of Clive Barnes. The veteran legit scribe died Nov. 19 at age 81, having spent 31 of his 63 years as a journalist writing theater and dance criticism for the New York Post. The London native also wrote on those subjects for newspapers from the Times of London to the New York Times.

Charlotte St. Martin, exec director of the Broadway League, called Barnes "a true lover of the arts." "The Broadway community will miss his great style and talent," she said.
