Montecito homeowners Rob Lowe and Ivan Reitman (co-topper of the Montecito Picture Co.) were among those who had to flee encroaching embers. Christopher Lloyd's home was heavily damaged in the fire, but the "Back to the Future" thesp was said to be filming in Vancouver.
Oprah Winfrey, who also owns a home in Montecito, was working on her show in Chicago when the fire started; she compared notes with Lowe, currently starring on "Brothers and Sisters," on her show Friday. Lowe told her that he and his son dodged embers as they fled the scene, which he described as "Armageddon." He advised her on neighbors and mutual friends departing the region, including Reitman.
As of Sunday afternoon, the so-called Tea fire was mostly contained, and the media's attention had been diverted to other fires sweeping through Orange and L.A. counties. More than 200 homes were torched in the Tea fire. Steven Spielberg, Michael Douglas, Steve Martin, John Cleese, Jeff Bridges and Google topper Eric Schmidt also have homes in the area.
