L.A.-based First Independent Pictures has picked up U.S. rights to Matt Aselton's comedy "Gigantic," starring Paul Dano and Zooey Deschanel. Pic will be released in the spring.
Dano plays a mattress store worker who's looking to adopt a Chinese baby and falls for Deschanel. Christine Vachon and Mindy Goldberg ("Junebug") produced. Film preemed at the Toronto Film Festival.
Cinetic Media's Sarah Lash and attorney Jerry Dasti negotiated the deal with FIP's Gary Rubin and Shelley Surpin of Surpin, Mayersohn and Edelstone. Foreign sales are being handled by Fortissimo Films.
