Alta Films' Enrique Gonzalez Macho receives the City of Huelva Award on Nov. 17. Spain's top arthouse distributor, Gonzalez Macho produced such young directors' films as Jorge Sanchez Cabezudo's "The Night of the Sunflowers" and Iciar Bollain's "Take My Eyes." Spanish thesp Juan Luis Galiardo ("Esperpentos," "Miguel and William") picks up another City plaudit on Nov. 21.
LUIS BUNUEL PRIZE
Paz Encina's "Paraguayan Hammock," the first 35mm all-Paraguayan feature since the '70s, will be awarded with the sixth Luis Bunuel Prize, organized by Fipca.
POSTHUMOUS HONORS
Fest honors two Ibero-American greats who died this year:
Cuban helmer Humberto Solas ("Honey for Oshun," "Manuela," "Cecilia"). A member of the '60s New Latin American Cinema, best remembered for his odes to womanhood ("Lucia," "Manuela," "Cecilia") and founder of Cuba's Gibara Intl. Low Budget Film Festival in 2003.
Rafael Azcona, legendary deacon of Spanish screenwriters ("The Blind Sunflowers," "The Little Flat," "Belle epoque"), who died in March, a master of sharply drawn, acidic yet compassionate social chronicles of Spain's lower classes.
FREEDOM KEY AWARD
In its 21st year, a parallel fest screens competition pics for prisoners at the Huelva Provincial Penitentiary, where captive auds vote on the Freedom Key Award.
