Fest fetes the current generation of British black actors and filmmakers who, partly through finding work in Hollywood, have started to make waves, including Chiwetal Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Naomi Harris, Sophie Okonedo and Idris Elba.
Fest highlights include L.A.-based writer Rodney Charles’ directorial feature debut “The Disciple” and heist movie “Tic,” which stars four L.A.-based black Brit thesps: Lennie James, Treva Etienne, Howard Antony and Gary McDonald.
“The increasing globalization of film is really exciting and is providing a valuable shop window to black British film talent who have spent many years honing their craft,” commented Nadia Denton, director of the fest.
“We are also seeing an increase in home grown talent inspired by the creative possibilities of the industry.”
Tenth edition of the fest, which runs Nov. 7-17 at London’s BFI Southbank, is backed by Film London.
