MoMA picks 'Contenders'

Film series spotlights likely awards candidates

'Revolutionary Road'

MoMA's 'Revolutionary Road' screening will include a Q&A with helmer Sam Mendes and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

The Museum of Modern Art is getting in on the Oscar-season screening series game: "The Contenders," a new annual survey of likely awards candidates, will begin showing at MoMA on Nov. 14 and run through Jan. 12. Selected pics include studio hits like "Wall-E" and "The Dark Knight" alongside indie fare like "Frozen River" and "Happy-Go-Lucky," with special MoMA members-only sneak peaks of pics "Che" (Jan. 3) and "Revolutionary Road" (Dec. 2).

Other perks include introductions and conversations with filmmakers and thesps, including Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio and Sam Mendes for "Revolutionary Road." "The Contenders" will also present a North American preem: French-language Catherine Deneuve starrer "I Want to See," directed by Lebanese co-helmers Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige. "I Want to See" is skedded for a Dec. 13 screening.
