Sci Fi Channel to play 'GameQuest'

Videogamers square off in reality competition

Sci Fi Channel has greenlit production for reality competish series "GameQuest."

The cabler has ordered eight episodes of the hourlong series, which has been slated to premiere in the first quarter of 2009. Series is produced by Granada America and World Cyber Games (WCG), with Samsung Electronics also serving as production partner. Show will be shot in L.A.

Skein will feature a dozen contestants squaring off each week in top game titles from various studios, with physical challenges extrapolated from the games also thrown into the mix.

"With two out of every three American households playing videogames, it's clear that this mainstream phenomenon is a perfect arena for the channel's agenda of broadening the brand while celebrating imagination," said Sci Fi prexy Dave Howe.
