Lin and TW Cable had been at loggerheads over a new retransmission consent contract for stations in Indianapolis; Green Bay, Wis.; Buffalo, N.Y.; and Columbus, Ohio, among other markets.
The deal was reached shortly after midnight on Wednesday, and the stations — which were yanked from TW and Bright House systems on Oct. 3 after their previous retrans pact expired — were quickly restored to Time Warner Cable systems, as well as systems owned by Bright House Networks that were repped in the negotiations by TW Cable execs.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the dispute between Lin and the nation’s second-largest cable system operator had been over Lin’s asking price of about 30¢ per subscriber in each market. In past deals, Lin had not received any coin for retrans rights from Time Warner, though the company stressed that in recent years it has negotiated deals that involve payments with other cable, satellite and telco providers.
The Lin-TW standoff is seen as a harbinger of other retrans battles to come between broadcasters and cablers in the coming months, as a number of station owners in midsized markets will face similar negotiations.
Lin prexy-CEO Vincent Sadusky called the deal a "mutually agreeable economic agreement" that reflects "the value of our television stations."
