Killer, GC to co-produce 'Conqueror'

Duo ink deal for medieval action film

Killer Films has inked a deal with the GC Corp. to co-produce the medieval actioner "William the Conqueror" by scribes Brian Edgar and Derek Wallbank.

Script follows the rise of the illegitimate son of the Duke of Normandy to the English crown in 1066 following the Battle of Hastings.

The project marks a left turn from Killer's well-known indie projects, which include "Boys Don't Cry," "Far From Heaven" and "Hedwig and the Angry Inch."

"This is a big-budget studio movie. For many years we've been interested in a bigger canvas. It was just a matter of finding the right project," Killer Films' Pamela Koffler told Daily Variety.

Killer toppers Christine Vachon and Koffler will produce with GC Corp. principals Joseph Grinkorn and Adi Cohen, whose venture capital fund specializes in entertainment-related portfolios and is capitalized at $100 million.

Killer still maintains its deal with producer John Wells, who provides the company's overhead and will take an exec producer credit on "William."
