The pic has now passed 2 million admissions, racking up 2.4 billion yen ($24 million).
Pis is based on a bestseller by mystery scribe Keigo Higashiono that was made into a hit drama series on the Fuji TV network last year. It teams a physicist (Masaharu Fukuyama) and a femme detective (Kou Shibasaki) against the cleverer sort of criminal.
Fukuyama and Shibasaki reprised their roles for the pic, while series helmer Hiroshi Nishitami also made the bigscreen version.
Bowing at No. 2 was action suspenser "Eagle Eye" with $2.5 million on 193,000 admissions.
Following at No. 3 was "P.S. I Love You," the Hillary Swank romantic drama that opened with $1.5 million on 108,000 admissions.
