On a night when TBS likely won or challenged for the lead with its final game of baseball's American League Championship Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox, CBS started very strong with a football overrun. The final 45 minutes of the Jets-Raiders overtime game is expected to average better than an 8 rating in adults 18-49. Early estimates are murky for the rest of the CBS lineup, with "60 Minutes" expected to average roughly a 3.8 demo rating, "Cold Case" a 2.8, and "The Unit" a 2.6.
ABC should finish slightly behind CBS on the night, paced as usual by "Desperate Housewives" (5.6/12 in 18-49, 15.2 million viewers overall), which was at a season low. Also for the Alphabet, "America's Funniest Home Videos" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall), "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (3.6/9 in 18-49, 10.8 million viewers overall) and "Brothers & Sisters" (3.5/9 in 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall) posted solid numbers in line with recent weeks.
NBC's "Sunday Night Football" contest was at a season low (roughly a 3.9/9 in 18-49 and 9.2 million viewers overall for Tampa Bay-Seattle), enabling Fox's male-skewing comedies "King of the Hill" (3.5/8 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) and "Family Guy" (4.7/10 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall) to hit season highs. Also for Fox, "The Simpsons" averaged a solid 3.8/10 in 18-49 and 8.1 million viewers overall, and 9:30 entry "American Dad" was the net's lowest-rated firstrun laffer (3.3/7 in 18-49, 6.6 million viewers overall).
It's getting close to pull-the-plug time at CW for its very low-rated trio of "In Harm's Way" (0.2/1 in 18-49, 0.6 million viewers overall), "Valentine" (0.2/1 in 18-49, 0.6 million viewers overall) and "Easy Money" (0.2/0 in 18-49, 0.7 million viewers overall).
Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC and CBS, 3.7/9; Fox, 3.2/8; NBC, 2.8/7; Univision, 1.3/3; CW, 0.2/1.
In total viewers: CBS, 13.5 million; ABC, 11.1 million; NBC, 7.5 million; Fox, 6.6 million; Univision, 3.2 million; CW, 0.7 million.
