A German-Turkish co-production, it tells the story of a small-time trader in eastern Turkey who gambles his community's coin on a scam involving black-market medicine.
Turkish legit thesp Genco Erkal also got a special mention from the jury for his supporting role in the film.
World sales are handled by The Works International. As yet, pic has no local distribution.
Fourteen international titles were in competition, selected for the quality of their soundtrack and sound design, the fest's enduring obsession.
Kudos for best music went to Tolibhon Shahidi for the score of Samira Makhmalbaf's "Two-Legged Horse."
Bent Hamer was named best director for "O'Horten," while the nod for best scenario went to writer-helmer Sylvie Verheyde for "Stella."
Two other thesps attracted special mentions: Yolande Moreau, for "Seraphine" and Hadji Gul for "Kabuli Kid."
Fest's public prize is announced Monday (Oct. 20).
