Sci Fi ups Thomas Vitale to exec VP

Exec to oversee programming, original movies

Sci Fi Channel has upped Thomas Vitale to exec VP of programming and original movies.

Vitale, who joined the net in 1993, shortly after it launched, as director of acquisitions, is charged with delivering up to 36 original pics per year to the channel. He’s credited with developing Sci Fi’s Saturday evening original movie showcase, "Saturday Night: The Most Dangerous Night of Television."

Previously senior VP of programming and original movies, Vitale has also been responsible for developing the channel’s two-hour investigative documentaries, including the top-rated "Mystery of the Crystal Skulls" special that was tied to the summer release of "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
