Actor, singer Benny Thomas dies

Worked with Newton-John on 'Toomorrow'

Actor and singer Benny Thomas died Sept. 18 in New York City after a long battle with cancer. He was 62.

Also a singer-songwriter, Thomas performed with the band "Toomorrow," a backup band for Olivia Newton-John. He co-starred in the 1970 feature musical named after the band.

His album "Boy on A Pony" was released on Newton-John's record label. 

Born in Cairo, Georgia, Thomas appeared onstage, in soap operas and on TV commercials and was nominated for a daytime Emmy for his role as Dr. Jack Garner in "The Doctors." 

Thomas also co-hosted a daytime talkshow in the 1980s in Nashville.

He is survived by a daughter, a son and a brother.
