Directors make fake movie trailers

Coixet, Bayona, Plympton contribute to festival

At the Sitges film fest, helmer Isabel Coixet unspooled a trailer for “Don’t Talk to Me About Life When I’m Dying,” a follow-up to her Ben Kingsley-Penelope Cruz starrer “Elegy.”

Jaume Balaguero presented a plush, atmospheric trailer for “The Exorcist V.”

And Juan Antonio Bayona teased “La Desgracia,” a comedic slice of kitchen-sink realism to follow up his pic “The Orphanage.”

But don’t look for any of the promo-ed pics in theaters anytime soon. Or ever. The trailers are all fakes — early entries in the first Intl. Festival of Fake Film Trailers, launched online Sept. 15 at teaserland.com. Other contributors included Paco Plaza and Bill Plympton.

The fakes fest was launched by Spanish companies Vasaver and Accion Media and coordinated by Xavi Bru.

Competitors were invited to make a 90-second or shorter trailer of a nonexisting film and post it online. Winner will be announced in January, with Canal Plus awarding facilities worth $42,540 to make a real short.
