Also on the bill are dance perfs from groups including Alvin Ailey, Trisha Brown and Merce Cunningham, as well as a repeat engagement of Jonathan Miller’s staging of Bach oratorio "St. Matthew Passion."
Bridge Project, a previously announced three-year series of classic plays, is co-produced by BAM, the Old Vic (the London theater of which Kevin Spacey is a.d.) and Sam Mendes’ Neal Street Prods. Initial productions, which will run in rep, are Chekhov’s "The Cherry Orchard" (Jan. 2-March 8) and Shakespeare’s "The Winter’s Tale" (Feb. 10-March 8).
Repertory cast for both plays includes Simon Russell Beale, Ethan Hawke, Sinead Cusack, Richard Easton, Josh Hamilton and Rebecca Hall. Both shows are helmed by Mendes.
All-male Propeller, which has brought productions of "The Taming of the Shrew" and "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" to Brooklyn, returns with a staging of "The Merchant of Venice" helmed by Edward Hall. Show will run May 6-17.
In addition to runs by Cunningham (April 16-19), Brown (April 29-May 2) and Ailey (June 9-14), Miller’s popular version of "St. Matthew Passion" — which has played BAM in 1997, 2001 and 2006 — is set for April 17-25.
