HOLLYWOOD -- Elle's salute to women in Hollywood showered the love on femmes Monday at the Four Seasons.
But
Sigourney Weaver said, "Someday, hopefully, we won't need to dedicate a day to celebrate women."
Event, emceed by
Chelsea Handler, kicked off with
Diane Keaton introducing the night's first honoree. Praising
Halle Berry's "Monster's Ball" perf, she called it true and honest without "a prosthetic nose" or any other device.
Nicole Kidman was introduced by
Shirley MacLaine, who said working with the thesp was "the best part of 'Bewitched.' "
The grand finale was the award to
Jane Fonda, who asked, "Why are all these people here? Part of it is publicity."
But the real reason the event drew guests such as
Sheryl Crow,
Jennifer Lopez,
Kate Beckinsale,
Amber Tamblyn,
Diablo Cody and
Robin Swicord, she said is, "We want to be in the same room as all of you."
